The Slideshare
The pre-survey Slideshare is displayed on the right, though you can also view it on the Slideshare website. The most important aspect of the presentation is it's brevity--the title says "less than five minutes," but really it can easily be read in about one. I made it so short a) so I could hold my viewers' attention, and b) to imitate the short duration of a TV commercial, since such advertisements might be the most plausible way to make the majority of the American public aware of Asian carp.
Of course, I probably could have imitated the TV commercial format more closely, and been more engaging and persuasive, if I had filmed an ad myself. However, the mostly dry, information-based nature of my presentation may actually lend some credibility to my data. If I had done an excellent job of creating a well-filmed ad that exercised great persuasive power over my subjects, there would be doubt as to whether a similarly effective commercial could be created for national audiences. However, my presentation presents the barest of information (with perhaps a slight touch of humor in the repetitive slide titles). Any commercial could easily convey such basic information, and probably do so more persuasively. Therefore, my data as to who could be persuaded to buy Asian carp are, I would hope, not inflated but instead conservative. |
